Environment

At Odfjell, reducing our environmental impact is not only a responsibility, it is integrated in how we operate and plan for the future. The oceans, coasts, and communities we serve are essential to our business, and we are committed to safeguarding them while transporting essential liquid products.

We remain transparent in our reporting, ambitious in our goals, and compliant with international standards. Odfjell has set clear climate targets: to reduce carbon intensity by 50% by 2030 compared to a 2008 benchmark, and to operate a fleet capable of zero emissions by 2050. We take a systematic approach to categorizing emissions, enabling us to track, understand, and address our impact across all operational scopes – from fuel use to value-chain activities. Looking ahead, we are navigating toward net-zero through continuous operational improvements, efficiency gains, and collaborative industry initiatives.

Details on our ongoing innovation projects, technological developments, and financing frameworks that support these ambitions can be found in the Projects and technology page. Together, these priorities guide our path toward a net-zero future for shipping, society, and the planet.

Climate targets

Odfjell has set ambitious climate targets to help drive our primary objective to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all operations, contributing to global climate goals, including the Paris Agreement.

How we categorize emissions

At Odfjell, fuel-related emissions make up the largest share of our environmental footprint. Categorizing our emissions, from direct fuel use to indirect energy consumption and value-chain impacts, we can pinpoint where reductions will have the greatest effect.

Navigating toward Net-Zero

Odfjell has set an ambitious goal of achieving net-zero absolute emissions by 2050. Reaching this target is a complex process, influenced by several factors.
