This year, the Odfjell theme was “Your Right to Safety”, in line with the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) theme, “A safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at work.”
On board, the program focused on personal safety, and how it relates to the Life-Saving Rules. The Ship Management battle cry “safety starts with me” captured personal safety as both a right and a responsibility. Defining personal safety as physical safety, the campaign promoted safe working practices to protect the body from harm while recognizing the brain—and hence the mind—as a body part. The discussions and activities therefore included hazard identification, hand and finger safety, proper manual lifting techniques, and mindfulness meditation.

For the offices, the main Global Safety Day theme was “Road Safety”, drawing from one of the nine Life-Saving Rules, Safe Driving.
The campaign had largely been online, with reminders on safe driving and safe commuting distributed through our internal communication platforms. In Manila, the day was marked with a short discussion on road safety attended by colleagues and company drivers.
Thank you to everyone for the active participation during this year’s Global Safety Day. May we all continue to put safety first in everything that we do, every day.
