Welcoming the next wave of cadets at UCLM

07.05.2025
Manila colleagues visited the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) for an evening session with cadets and school administrators. The visit was attended by President and General Manager Agnes Enesio and Maritime/Cadetship Administrator Shaun Hendrick Dioko, who were warmly welcomed by the UCLM staff and NSA coordinators.

The visit began with a brief courtesy meeting with UCLM’s administrative staff and all NSA (Norwegian Shipowners’ Association) coordinators. This was followed by a tour of the dormitory and school facilities, led by the Dorm Master and the school’s OIC-NSA Project Director.

A dedicated meeting with the cadets followed. The session served as an onboarding and orientation opportunity, giving cadets a clearer understanding of their schedules, development timeline, and expectations under the Odfjell cadetship program.

Discussions also focused on the importance of loyalty and cooperation, and how these values contribute to professional growth at sea and ashore.

“It’s always important for us to meet the cadets early on, not just to introduce Odfjell, but to start a conversation about what kind of professionals they want to be and how can we be of service to them,” shares Shaun.

The team also shared the principle of Kaizen, which is the idea that small, consistent improvements in habits can lead to lasting positive change. Cadets were encouraged to embrace this mindset in their daily routines and training.

The evening concluded with a meaningful tradition: the Odfjell pin ceremony. Cadets were finally given their long-awaited pins, symbolizing their formal welcome into the Odfjell community.
