Odfjell crewmembers share their impressions on this year's Global Safety Day.

“Participating in the Global Safety Day activities was fulfilling because I was not only reminded of our safety protocols, I also learned new things for my own safety.”
- Joseph Abellen, Bosun, Bow Triumph

“Attitude towards work is a big factor why human errors or accidents happen on board. Procedures are expected to be carefully followed, but anyone who has doubts about a certain job is also expected to ask clarification or assistance from superiors and officers without hesitation.”
- Kristian Eivend Abubo, Ordinary Seaman, Bow Sun

“Through this year's Global Safety Day, our knowledge in using various fall protection equipment was refreshed, and our skill in knot tying was enhanced. We realized that while the figure of 8 and bowline knots are simple, they are helpful and effective. The workshop, delivered through a web link, was very user-friendly and interesting.”
- Rainier Balgos, Third Engineer, Bow Sea

“The theme of this year’s Global Safety Day is very relevant, and using digital technology during the activities made them more effective and made it easier for us to participate. As an Engine crew, I rely on digital measuring tools to get an accurate result, faster and more efficiently, so I really appreciated the digital aspect of the event.”
- Jayfer John Bañagaso, Electrician Trainee, Bow Triumph

“I was glad to learn that safety is a top priority here in my new company. It was my first time to experience a full day schooling about safety on board and it was amazing.”
- Jerry Ballesteros, Engine Boy, Bow Sun

“The Global Safety Day activities helped us to unwind and escape from all the stress in our work. At the same time, it reminded us that a stress-free environment contributes to a safe workplace.”
- Ricky Bentillo, Ordinary Seaman, Bow Triumph

“It’s always good to have a break from work, and collect ourselves from the stresses of our job. The Global Safety Day helped us realize and be reminded of the safety culture that we must uphold – that every time we work, we must assess the task at hand, evaluate the situation, determine the hazards, as well as the possible consequences.”
- Kimwell Eje, Messman, Bow Triumph

“The Global Safety Day had been a special day for everyone to have a break and prioritize improving their knowledge and skills. It made us realize that beyond all the training lies the good safety attitude that must be cultivated in each and every one of us.”
- Christian Esteban, Deck Boy, Bow Sea

“It had been the perfect training that allowed us to familiarize with the various onboard fall protection equipment that is very vital to our safety when working aloft. Overall, the activity had been very effective in raising everyone’s safety awareness. Looking forward to the next Global Safety Day.”
- Kevin Hechanova, Third Officer, Bow Sea

“The event taught me that safety should never be ignored. I will make sure to apply everything that I have learned about personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazard identification.”
- Christian Marasigan, Deck Boy, Bow Sun

“CEO Kristian Mørch’s message during the Global Safety Day inspired us to evaluate our stress level so we can be safe and effective in our job. It is good to be reminded that our well-being is very essential in order for us to stay safe at work.”
- Joshua Gavin Ortega, Engine Cadet, Bow Triumph

“The Global Safety Day celebration on board Bow Triumph was fun and fulfilling. We were reminded of how to operate the safety equipment we don’t normally use, and learned a lot from the games that we played. The games also made us realize that good and effective communication, as well as teamwork and cooperation, have a valuable effect on the performance of a team.”
- Arvey Kirchz Quiñones, Deck Boy, Bow Triumph

“Through the Global Safety Day, I was reminded that our life is priceless so we must treat it as the last. We cannot bring back what has been done. There is no room for regrets, so we should not settle for convenience, but settle only when it is safe. Always.”
- Paul Ruiz, Able Seaman, Bow Triumph

”The Global Safety Day on board Bow Triumph was thrilling; we had challenging games about safety, hazards, and PPE. The first game was Pass the Message, where we memorized phrases about safety and whispered it to the members of the group until it reached the last person, who wrote down the message on a paper. The game made us realize that through effective communication, we can amplify safer and effective work. The second game, which was about identifying hazards and the correct use of PPE, was a good reminder of our responsibility to keep ourselves and our colleagues safe.”
- Gerryc Ellen Santos, Deck Cadet, Bow Triumph
