USCG chemical industry training on board Odfjell ships

20.05.2021
As the chemical tanker hub of the US, Sector Houston of the US Coast Guard does the lion's share of Certificate of Compliance Inspections (COCs) for chemical tankers. Getting the qualifications necessary to carry out these inspections is critical to meet the industry's demand for COCs. During May, teams from USCG visit Odfjell ships to get the first-hand expertise they need. Everything done according to the virus protection protocol, of course.

Bow Precision and Bow Hercules have assisted the USCG inspectors these past weeks, and more training is planned onboard Bow Flora and Bow Optima, and possibly also other Odfjell vessels as the courses continue. Denise Schaefer, Manager Documentation and Regulatory Compliance at Odfjell USA, is in no doubt about the value of these visits:

"Relationships built during this type activity are invaluable when we deal with issues in the future. Good faith, transparency, trust are all earned, and thanks to Captain and crew, Odfjell continues to have a good legacy with the USCG. Good work being done by Odfjell vessels and crew!"

After the training on board Bow Precision, Captain Bioy K. Chacko summed up:

"I hope the training has enhanced the knowledge and understanding of USCG in relation to tanker inspection, tanker safety and cargo handling on parcel chemical tankers. Assisting in training the USCG inspectors was a pleasure and I like to put a word of appreciation in relation to the inspector’s insightful questions and active engagement throughout the process. The exercises I believe helped foster a strong rapport amongst the two teams."
