The International Labour Organization’s (ILO) World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2022 is set to April 28. It is themed "Let’s ACT Together to build a positive safety and health culture".
At Odfjell, we will use this opportunity to launch Live-Saving Rules (LSRs) for Odfjell, in line with many other industries.
Research on accidents since 2018 proves that hundreds of lives could have been saved had Life-Saving Rules been in place. Life-Saving Rules are clear, simple and proactive key actions to prevent fatal injuries during higher-risk activities. The rules are there to in fact save a person’s life.
The Life-Saving Rules are meant to draw attention to the activities most likely to lead to a fatality, and the life-saving actions over which an individual has control. The rules are intended to support existing company management systems, and not replace existing policies, safety training program, operating procedures, or work instructions.
During this month, Life-Saving Rules and safety moments will be posted on our communication platforms, and several campaigns will take place in all business units and offices. As always, a message from CEO Kristian Mørch will be available.
Share your celebrations with us! Send photos, videos or write-ups to media@odfjell.com.
In 2003, the ILO, initiated the ‘Global Safety Day’ to stress the prevention of accidents and diseases at work. This has been renamed to ‘World Day for Safety and Health at Work’ and is marked worldwide on April 28.
Odfjell always puts safety and health first, hence the celebration of World Day has been a tradition in our company. Each year, a new health and safety theme is in focus.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2022 focuses on participation and social dialogue in creating a positive safety and health culture. The theme is "Let’s ACT Together to build a positive safety and health culture".
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been seen that having a strong Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) system, which includes meaningful participation of governments, employers, workers, public health actors and all relevant parties at the national and enterprise level, has been crucial in protecting working environments and safeguarding the safety and health of workers. At the workplace level, a strong OSH culture is one in which the right to a safe and healthy working environment is valued and promoted by both management and workers.
