Typhoon Rai: Odfjell and Norwegian shipping companies donate to help affected residents

23.12.2021
The super typhoon that made landfall in the Philippines on December 16 had disastrous consequences for the local communities. Around 2.6 million people are affected, with a growing number of injuries and fatalities. Odfjell and other Norwegian shipowners have joined an initiative to donate funds for emergency aid.

Fortunately, all our colleagues in the Philippines are physically unharmed and accounted for. However, much damage is done to community buildings and homes, infrastracture, hospitals, schools, fields and boats, and supply chains of food, water and other essential goods. The typhoon is the most powerful storm to hit the Philippines this year.

Odfjell will contribute with php 5000 to each of our 115 Odfjell families who reside in the ‘Signal No, 4’ area. This is the area where the typhoon made the most damaging landfall (Central Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao). In addition, we donate USD 10 000 to the Red Cross to support their work in helping affected communities.

This amount is echoed by other Norwegian maritime companies, following an initiative by the Norwegian Training Center.

This initiative is in line with an emergency appeal launched by the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to fund long-term relief efforts.
