Successful meet-and-greets at the One Ocean Week in Bergen

The annual One Ocean Week took place in Bergen in April, and Odfjell took part in several events. Together with fellow industry peers, we hosted an exhibition that welcomed curious visitors, and five colleagues joined the student ‘speed-networking’ event. It was a great chance to spread the word about Odfjell and the maritime industry in our headquarters hometown – an industry that employs more than 30 000 people, and is the home of 40 shipowners with a combined fleet of more than 500 vessels.

The exhibition team set up a content packed stand, including a ship model of Bow Explorer, show reels, marketing material, goodies and give-aways. A definite winner among the younger visitors was the VR model, hosted by IT trainees Torgrim B. Pedersen and Niki Bayatbarouni.

During the weekend, hundreds of visitors checked out our stand and met with Executive Assistant Silje Bøe Tubbene, Senior Fleet Coordinator Jorunn Pedersen, Intern Malin Gåsvær Haugen and Marine Superintendent Ken Hepsø.

On Monday, 600 pupils from local schools visited, as did Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, who stopped by for a chat with Malin and Manager Crewing NWE, Eva Storeide. They talked about Odfjell and the importance of recruitment and collaboration within the maritime cluster.

On Wednesday, five colleagues - Operations Manager Anette Wik Silden, Finance Manager Henriette Bergesen, Manager Business Analysis Stian Ommedal, Manager Demurrage Manager Ingelin S. Jacobsen and Charterer Christofer Bones Aastveit - continued the knowledge sharing at the Maritime Bergen ‘Fish & Ships’ event.

There, they “speed-networked” with around 150 students who wanted to learn more about the many career paths the ocean has to offer.

"It was truly inspiring to meet so many engaged and curious students. Their questions showed not only genuine interest, but also solid knowledge about the maritime world already.

Having dedicated my own career to shipping, it is encouraging to meet so many young talents. I look forward to welcoming them as industry colleagues in the near future," said Operations Manager Anette Wik Silden.
