Successful launch of IMOS VIP Cloud System: Streamlining operations and enhancing accessibility

03.07.2023
After a thorough planning and implementation phase, we are pleased to announce the successful transition to the cloud version of IMOS. This transition marks a significant milestone in Odfjell’s ongoing digital transformation journey.

On June 2, we pulled the plug on the former IMOS solution and moved all operations to IMOS VIP.

“Despite some minor bugs, the overall seamless transition to the cloud-based platform was made possible by close collaboration between Odfjell's AppOps, DevOps and IT Core, the Business Engagement Team (BET), our eminent super users and the system supplier Veson; in addition to the positive attitudes and patience displayed by all IMOS users. The project team would like to thank everyone for their patience and positive stance to the system upgrade – much appreciated!”

Automated and streamlined work processes

The migration to IMOS VIP represents a necessary upgrade to automate and streamline Odfjell's work processes. By leveraging a cloud-based system, we can develop compatible solutions and ensure a seamless flow of data to other systems. This work will continue, and the next step is to implement other automation initiatives to further improve operational efficiency and productivity.

Enhanced accessibility

One of the key advantages of IMOS VIP in the cloud is the increased accessibility it offers. The system can now be accessed from anywhere, at any time, and through any device.

With the elimination of Citrix for all our offices and the introduction of personal laptops, remote work has become more convenient. Some few reports are still hosted locally, but will be moved to the cloud in the nearest future.

Seamless integration and innovation

IMOS VIP offers seamless integration capabilities, allowing integration with both in-house-developed tools and third-party systems, fostering innovation and driving continuous improvements.

The cloud providers' responsibility for system updates and maintenance tasks relieves the burden on our IT team, freeing up valuable time for focusing on other improvement measures.

Continuous system updates and security measures

By transitioning to the cloud, Odfjell gains access to the latest system updates from Veson, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of technological advancements. Veson is continuously working on new features, such as bunker optimization and CO2 impact analysis, which will contribute to enhancing our operations.

Furthermore, the cloud providers implement robust security measures and adhere to strict data protection protocols. We can rely on the expertise and comprehensive security measures of these providers, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of its data.

Smooth project execution

The implementation of IMOS VIP was made possible through the exemplary teamwork and coordination among Odfjell's IT, BET, Veson, and not least the involvement of superusers, who played a crucial role in the successful adoption.

The superusers played a vital role in verifying business scenarios, familiarizing themselves with the system, and supporting end users throughout the transition. The combined efforts of all parties ensured a smooth implementation, resulting in a seamless transition for all users.

“We commend the remarkable dedication and hard work demonstrated by all stakeholders involved. It is impressive to see how everyone has helped each other while we all get used to the new version of IMOS.”

Future prospects

The successful migration of IMOS VIP to the cloud aligns with Odfjell's strategic vision of moving its business systems to the cloud.

“This transition serves as a necessary step toward improving and optimizing work processes and digital foundation for our company in a rapidly evolving industry. This cloud-based system for maritime shipping sets the stage for further digitalization efforts, increasing Odfjell’s ability to leverage innovative technologies and drive continuous improvement,”
