The conferences and workshops are part of Ship Management’s new knowledge-sharing concept, the ‘Fleet Week’. The plan is that this will take place in Bergen once every quarter for attendees from the shore organization and Captains and Chief Officers from NWE and the Philippines. With this quarterly frequency, most of our Captains and Chief Engineers will get to attend over any 12-month period.
The aim of the Fleet Week is to:
This week’s events were the pilot Fleet Week, stacked with presentations from the various Ship Management teams and Odfjell Tankers – and with time to discuss, ask questions and enjoy the in-person mingling we have all had too little of since the pandemic hit. Around 40 shore personnel and 14 Captains and Chief Engineers attended:
In his welcoming talk, COO Harald Fotland took a moment to honor the three colleagues we have lost these past months. He also underlined the appreciation for our seafarer’s efforts in an unprecedented time:
“Officers and crew have carried the biggest burden through the pandemic; uncertainty, quarantines and crew change challenges, no shore leaves and the constant concern to keep yourself and your colleagues safe on board. Thank you for your impressive dedication and professionalism!”
Topics and discussions covered safety, recruitment, strategy, competence development, fleet performance, demurrage, Infor, markets, vetting, procedures, IT, tech and more. The discussions led to around 100 concrete action points, and some happy organizers:
"Finally, we could arrange our first Fleet Week! Happy faces and really good interaction, a definite success!”
Global Head of Ship Management, Torger Trige
“It was a milestone for both our seafarers and office personnel of Fleet Bergen to join the Fleet Week after a long break due to the Covid pandemic. It was a constructive week with sharing of information and ideas. As a sum up I would say that 'good performance and cooperation' are the key words.”
VP Fleet Management, Knut Erik Fredriksen
