As part of our increasing focus on digitalization, Odfjell has launched a project to explore recent banking improvements and find an electronic card solution that will minimize the need to have cash on board, and make handling of funds safer and more convenient.
In the last quarter of 2018, the Cash2Card Project was launched, facilitating the testing of debit cards on board four pilot vessels: Bow Chain, Bow Summer, Bow Sea and Bow Star. The project aimed to reduce the risks related to handling cash on board, and provide a safer and more efficient solution to deliver currency to our vessels.
After careful evaluation of this first phase and based on feedback from the four test vessels, Odfjell has decided to proceed with the second phase of the project with a well-experienced provider, ShipMoney by Maritime Payment Solutions, LLC.
ShipMoney is an industry-leading provider of payment solutions for maritime companies throughout the world. They offer an efficient and cost effective alternative for the delivery of currency to ships, enabling employers like Odfjell to offer seafarers the flexibility to directly manage wages, providing immediate access and control anywhere and at any time in a very cost-efficient manner.
Check out this video to learn more about the ShipMoney card that will be issued to every Odfjell seafarer.
The current plan is to test the ShipMoney cards on the same pilot vessels, beginning the first week of September, and complete the roll-out to the rest of the fleet by the end of the year.
During the testing period, the Cash2Card Project Team will closely coordinate with the test vessels to ensure a smooth transition and address any concerns that may arise. They will also issue updates as necessary, and once preparations for full implementation of the new debit card solution commences.
