Odfjell volunteers plant more than 500 forest trees in the Sierra Madre Mountains in the Philippines.

Odfjell in the Philippines personnel, together with young officers from Norway, started the last day of August early as they left the capital at the break of dawn for a four-hour drive to Siniloan, Laguna — a town in the south of Manila — for this year's CSR activity: tree-planting in the Sierra Madre Mountains.

After a briefing and some stretching, the eco-warriors went on a 20-minute trek to the planting site, where they first received instructions on how properly plant the saplings.

The volunteers planted a total of 510 Philippine trees: Kamagong (Diospyros discolor), Bignay (Antidesma bunius) and Lipote (Syzygium polycephaloides).

In accepting the certificate from FEED, Manager Overseas Office Torger Trige acknowledged how fast and efficient the volunteers had been, finishing the task an hour and a half earlier than expected. He also thanked the participants for spending half of their weekend for this cause, and challenged everyone to aim to do more.

The tree-planting activity was done in cooperation with Fostering Education & Environment for Development (FEED).  FEED, Inc. is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that endeavors to restore, preserve and protect the biodiversity through conservation and environmental efforts in restoring endemic and endangered tree species and vast forests, social forestry livelihood opportunities and the advancement of research into agricultural, environmental, forestry, sustainable development and related subjects.

In 2016, Odfjell also partnered with FEED for its CSR activity and planted 400 indigenous Philippine hardwood trees in the Sierra Madre Mountains.
