Late March, The World Petrochemical Conference gathered hundreds of petrochemical industry companies in Houston, shortly after AFPM was held in San Antonio – both events drawing many Odfjell customers.
Teams from Tankers and Terminals travelled to Texas to meet with customers such as Lotte, Clarksons, Ineos, Tricon, and Chevron, and to participate in the conference sessions and social networking events.
This year marked the 38th World Petrochemical Conference.
“The conference gave a comprehensive outlook of the global energy markets in today’s geopolitical environment. Regional focus on feedstocks advantages, commodity/specialty chemical markets and environmental challenges had a lot of attention throughout the conference.”
Knut H. Holsen, VP Special Projects
Beyond the fundamentals of chemical supply and demand, the discussion at WPC 2023 expanded to encompass important supply chains, feedstocks, financials, geopolitical factors, and emissions, since "volatile markets can be managed — if you know the risks."
As one of the world's largest petrochemical events, the AFPM International Petrochemical Conference brings together the international maritime industry for a week of exhibitions, conferences, and social events. A crew of VPs from Tankers and Ship Management was among those present.
In addition to hearing from industry experts on the most pressing political, economic, and environmental challenges confronting the petrochemical sector, they had the opportunity to meet with other professionals face-to-face and mingle at special networking events. One such event was the annual Odfjell reception.
Bjørn Hammer, Chief Commercial Officer, was well pleased with the response Odfjell received at the conference:
"Customers are genuinely interested in working with Odfjell, and we've gotten a lot of positive feedback on our operational and commercial services. The sessions in general, as well as the Odfjell-hosted reception, were a huge success. The geopolitical situation, as well as general market forecasts and supply/demand, were naturally discussed. Furthermore, each session highlighted the energy issue and the path to net zero emissions, and all large firms have plans to dramatically reduce emissions."
