Odfjell Virtual Socials: Mind Match

20.04.2022
Bow Cecil emerged as winner in the tightly-fought ‘Mind Match’ guessing game.

The game featured 15 statements with blanks to be filled in by guests from the shore organization, based on five choices. The task for the vessels was to guess the shore personnel's answer, which proved to be a difficult one, illustrating the stark difference between the lifestyle of seafarers and those of shore-based employees. Nonetheless, the statements served as good conversation starters that can help colleagues know each other better.

Bow Flora came in second to Bow Cecil after beating Bow Star in a tie-breaker question.

Words of gratitude

Head of Odfjell Shared Service Centre (OSSC) Vanessa Medina formally opened the event, thanking the seafarers for the work that they do, and expressing her pride for the opportunity to know the seafarers and work with them.

We are all proud of what you do: for carrying on, for your dedication to safety, and for your world-class efforts. You have all continued to operate, serving as frontliners during this pandemic.

COO Harald Fotland, who attended his second virtual social, also thanked everyone who participated:

It's good to see you all; appreciate to see the good atmosphere and the great fun that our colleagues on board have.

About Odfjell Virtual Socials

An Odfjell virtual social is essentially an informal virtual social event that gathers vessels at a certain time to socialize, engage in a friendly competition, or just check in with each other.

Held once every two months, the virtual socials run for about one hour to limit disruptions on vessels’ operations. Participation among ships and crew are totally voluntary, so a ship with only one representative is as welcome as another with all crew members present.

At the moment, virtual socials are designed to feature competitions as the main activity in every session. To make the activities more interesting and exciting, prizes in the form of additional welfare fund and e-certificates that complement bragging rights are prepared for competition winners.

The next virtual social is happening in May. Stay tuned for more details!
