Four vessels joined the first virtual social event entitled ‘Brain Storm’ that featured a trivia contest. Bow Lind bested Bow Flora, Bow Cecil and Bow Sky in the competition that sought to educate as it entertained.
VP Maritime Personnel Svend Foyn-Bruun formally opened the ‘Brain Storm’ event and led the ceremonial launch of the Virtual Socials initiative. In his welcome address, the VP MPS encouraged the seafarers to participate and enjoy the activity, and asked them to share feedback and suggestions to help improve succeeding sessions.
An Odfjell virtual social is essentially an informal virtual social event that gathers vessels at a certain time to socialize, engage in a friendly competition, or just check in with each other.
Held once every two months, the virtual socials run for a maximum of one hour to limit disruptions on vessels’ operations. Participation among ships and crew are totally voluntary, so a ship with only one representative is as welcome as another with all crew members present.
At the moment, virtual socials are designed to feature competitions as the main activity in every session. To make the activities more interesting and exciting, prizes in the form of additional welfare fund and e-certificates that complement bragging rights are prepared for competition winners.
