Some five vessels and colleagues from Manila, Bergen and São Paulo joined in the anniversary edition and 2022 finale of Odfjell virtual socials on Monday. The bi-monthly virtual event has been held seven times since it was introduced in 2021 as a response to the pandemic-induced crew change challenges and shore leave restrictions. While only a few vessels have managed to attend the virtual events, it has received tremendous support from colleagues both ashore and at sea.
A virtual social is not complete without a featured game. In keeping with the holiday music theme of the finale, the virtual socials crew facilitated Name that tune, a game that challenged participants to guess the title of the Christmas song being played. Only two vessels were able to join the game: Bow Fagus won over Bow Flora by just one point.
The ‘Deck the Halls’ Christmas Carol Competition was announced during the last virtual social in September. Vessels were challenged to produce a music video interpretation of the holiday classic, Deck the Halls. Two vessels responded to the challenged and submitted their entries: Bow Aquarius and Bow Fagus.
One of the awards to be won from the competition was the Favorite Christmas Carol award. The entries submitted by the participating vessels were posted on Facebook, and the online Odfjell community was asked to vote for their favorite. The virtual socials crew checked the live data on Facebook to determine the winner: Bow Aquarius.
The second award up for grabs from the competition was the Best Christmas Carol award, decided by a jury composed of Ship Operator Anette Wik Silden, Quality Manager Vinicius Madruga Santos, and Crew and Family Affairs Team Leader Olive De Vera. The entries were graded according to their adherence to the criteria: musicality, visual creativity and holiday spirit. Bow Fagus won the award.
