On Friday, April 23, Odfjell Ship Management launches a new safety campaign focused on eye care. It aims, among others, to promote and remind the use of protective eyewear and equipment.

The title of the campaign, Eye Care, is a play on the pronoun I (referring to oneself) and the body part eye, both pronounced the same way. By equating I (the person) with eye (the body part), the campaign reminds seafarers that safety means caring for oneself and protecting every inch of the body, especially the part that allows one to see and envision something, e.g., an image, a dream, a future.
The Eye Care campaign also features the battle cry, Protect your eyes. Fulfill your vision. This is to emphasize that the eyes are as important as every other part of a seafarer's body, not only to perform tasks on board, but also to work towards the fulfillment of a vision for oneself, and for the family.
The Eye Care campaign will run for three months from date of launch to ensure that vessels will be able to dedicate quality time for the activity. It is supported by short videos and case studies, and feedback will be gathered from vessels before the campaign is concluded.
Risk Management worked with four vessels – Bow Aquarius, Bow Fagus, Bow Sea, Bow Triumph – in preparing the materials distributed as part of the campaign.
Participation during the discussions is expected from every one on board, but the best way to participate in the campaign is for every seafarer to protect his/her eyes by using the prescribed eye protection equipment for every task.
Remember: Protect your eyes. Fulfill your vision.
