With new potential cargo movements from Thailand to the U.S. Gulf, particularly for the transport of propylene oxide (PO) from DOW Chemical, Odfjell is actively evaluating the feasibility of using larger vessels on this route. These vessels are considered “oversized” for MPT, making close coordination with the port and pilot authorities essential.
Operations Manager Thor Erik Haugland and Port Captain Odd Arne Hansen met with stakeholders including the Chief Pilot’s office and terminal representatives to discuss operational restrictions and explore safe berthing options.
“We spent a few hours in a meeting with the Chief Pilots and terminal representatives to discuss the restrictions,” said Haugland. “After the meeting, we were very pleased with the answer we got back, and I’ve reported to VP Asia Pacific that we should not hesitate to offer in on a COA with business from MPT.”
Following the discussions, the Odfjell team joined local stakeholders for lunch with representatives from the pilot station, terminal, agents, port authority, and port state control. Despite Odfjell’s limited presence at MPT in recent years, the visit was warmly received.
“It came to our attention that even though Odfjell has not been a frequent caller at MPT lately, we carry a strong brand, and they were very pleased we made the visit,” Haugland added.
The visit concluded with a short tour of the port house, where the team observed the departure of Bow Neon after completing discharge operations.
