When you don a fall arrest harness, some details may easily be overseen. Small as they may be, missing these small details – like ensuring carabiners are locked – can lead to disaster.
Some professions require a buddy check before personnel can go into action. During the buddy check, the buddies check that all the equipment worn by each other is configured correctly and functioning properly. With its systematic approach, the buddy check sets the seal on the safety of the people about to do the job.
The buddy check is the best way to show that you care about your colleague's safety, and the most tangible evidence that your buddies care about yours.
As in the first safety video, everything in the second installment – from the concept, to the script, to the footages – are made by Odfjell’ers, for fellow Odfjell’ers – all in support of our safety culture. The footage for this particular video was filmed on board Bow Summer when the vessel docked in a port in Batangas, Philippines August of last year.
Thank you to the supportive Captain and to all the officers and crew of Bow Summer who participated in the video production and extended their assistance to the shore personnel who came on board to film.
Keep Your Buddy Safe is meant to be shown during General Safety Meetings, followed by a discussion. It is supported by a Powerpoint presentation that comes with facilitator’s notes to aid in the discussion.
Enjoy the video, and remember that if anyone corrects your gear or how you’ve done it, it is because they care about you. Nice to know, isn’t it?
