Odfjell launches campaign to prevent STF accidents

The safety campaign aims to minimize slip, trip and fall (STF) incidents by raising further awareness about the hazards that cause them.

Odfjell Ship Management launches a reboot of the slip, trip and fall (STF) campaign, with focus on raising further awareness about these hazards in order to minimize STF incidents.

The campaign encourages seafarers to be more proactive in conducting themselves on board, particularly in areas where slip, trip and fall hazards abound.

Incident data from the past two years reveal that the most common accidents and near misses in the fleet still involved slips, trips and falls. And with the negative effects of pandemic-induced challenges on our seafarers’ well-being and consequently, on their ability to focus, it is imperative that they are reminded to be pro-active and prioritize their safety.

The STF prevention campaign will run for three months to allow for more flexibility in completing the activities, which include:

  • repainting of all areas on board where slip, trip and fall hazards abound
  • case study discussion
  • summary and assessment of the campaign

In 2015, the first STF campaign was conducted. Themed Safe Walkways and Ladders, it focused on addressing internal accident trends and improving the safety practices on board. The result were safer ships installed with the necessary equipment and controls to manage the slip, trip and fall hazards.

We expect that with everyone’s participation in the campaign, the Odfjell fleet will reduce STF-related incidents.
