In November 2018, Odfjell’s newly appointed VP Asia, Thomas M. Lund, visited the Shanghai office for the first time. The visit coincided with the office team’s farewell party for Manager Zhu Guo He, who retired December 31st after serving the company for 21 years. The farewell dinner was also attended by Zaidi Mohd from Odfjell Singapore, and our on-site team at the Hudong Shipyard headed by Tor-Arve Skjerli.

During the farewell dinner, Zhu Goe He was presented a gift by Thomas Lund on behalf of Odfjell.

Zhu joined Odfjell in 1997 and established the Odfjell Tankers representative office in China in Nanjing. The office later moved to Shanghai in 2000, and is one of four offices in Asia. It has been 40 years since Deng Xiaoping opened up China for market reforms, sparking an immense economic growth that has transformed the Chinese economy into the second largest in the world. A strong foothold in the Chinese market is a key element to Odfjell’s success.

Odfjell Shanghai does chartering and marketing for Odfjell Tankers in China, and acts as the protective agent for all Odfjell ships’ Chinese port calls. The team keeps a close dialogue with various parties to improve the ships’ efficiency and operation in the country.
