Odfjell Flumar holds relief efforts amid devastating Rio Grande do Sul floods

10.06.2024
In the wake of unprecedented floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, our Odfjell Flumar team joined forces to support the heavily affected local communities. A record rainfall and subsequent flooding caused widespread destruction earlier this month, and the area now faces severe challenges as floodwaters have left countless families in urgent need of help.

Through an initiative spearheaded by the Human Resources department at Odfjell Brazil, colleagues were encouraged to donate to those affected by the floods. The response was overwhelming: Office colleagues brought in clothes, towels, toys, food, and even purchased blankets to be sent to those in need.

Ailton dos Santos, a long-time worker at Granel and Odfjell Flumar, played a crucial role in this initiative. Known for his dedication in port services, Ailton personally took the responsibility of delivering all the donations to Santos. This task was particularly challenging as the Brazilian post offices and even the government were unable to handle the transport of donations due to the disrupted infrastructure.

In addition to material donations, many people connected to the Odfjell  Flumar community have contributed financial donations, recognizing the dire need for all types of help in the affected areas. The collective grassroot support makes a difference as Rio Grande do Sul begins the long road to recovery.

"Among this tragedy, we can see many people close to us that are helping with cash donations, as the affected community needs all types of help. And it’s a comfort to know the world is also helping, from all around," said Administrative/Operational Assistant Carina Marques.
