Maritime Law Summer Program back at Odfjell

29.08.2019
For the second year running, Odfjell was one of the selected maritime companies for the Chinese students attending the Maritime Law Summer program.

The summer law program was initiated last year by the local maritime cluster organization Maritime Bergen, the NHH Centre for shipping and logistics, the Norwegian Center for Chinese Law, and the University of Bergen.

For two weeks this summer, 40 Chinese, American and Norwegian students attended a varied course program in maritime law. The Chinese Ambassador to Norway, Yi Xianliang, attended the opening ceremony at the University, together with the University Rector, professors and representatives from the maritime organizations.

“We will have two weeks of academic cooperation based on curiosity, openness and exchange of knowledge”, said Professor in Law at the University of Bergen, Bjørnar Borvik.

The program combined lectures at the University, social outings and visits to selected maritime companies and organizations in the region. Odfjell was the only shipping company on the program agenda, and the students were welcomed to the headquarter by VP Commercial Analysis Per Christian Jæger and COS Øistein Jensen. Odfjell’s global operations, legal implications, market situation and expectations for the future were among the covered subjects.

“This program contributes in increasing the knowledge of the regional maritime industry and competence in a global setting.”
