We are very sorry to share with you that Chief Engineer Bjørnar Larsen has passed away. He became ill on the afternoon of January 20 on board Bow Optima, and was brought to hospital in Jubail. Sadly, he was declared deceased from cardiac arrest at 16:13 local time.
Bjørnar Larsen was 63 years old. He has been with Odfjell since 2005 and sailed most of his time onboard Kværner class vessels until he retired in 2020. He was regarded as an experienced and highly competent professional and a treasured colleague, always positive and helpful. He stepped up to help out in a difficult manning situation brought on by Covid, and signed on last for Bow Optima at the end of November. We are grateful for his invaluable contributions to Odfjell throughout his career. He will be deeply missed.
We are all deeply saddened by losing an esteemed colleague. Our heartfelt condolences go to Chief Engineer Bjørnar Larsen’s family, friends and his colleagues on board. May he rest in peace.
