Fourteen scholars sponsored by Odfjell received their college diploma from John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation - Bacolod during its commencement exercises on April 3rd at the SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City, southern Philippines. Composed of seven Deck cadets and seven Engine cadets, the graduates form the 11th batch of Odfjell Cadetship Program.
The batch produced 11 Cum Laude graduates and one Magna Cum Laude awardee, Deck Cadet France Gerard Santamena, who also was also named the Most Outstanding Graduate and received the Leadership Award.
“I have always believed that finishing my education will provide me with a sense of confidence that others will recognize in me. I know that receiving this degree will open up endless doors of possibilities for me, so I would always remind myself to dream big and keep my eyes on the prize. I am also grateful that Odfjell saw my potential to be a future marine officer. That made me strive to prove myself, because the company showed me that I can make a valuable contribution to the maritime industry.”
France Gerard Santamena
VP Maritime Personnel Torger Trige and Odfjell Philippines, Inc. (OPI) President, Captain Remigio Zamora, graced the momentous event for the future leaders of Odfjell. They awarded plaques of recognition and cash gifts to the graduates.
Since its inception, the Odfjell Cadetship Program has produced 295 graduates, most of whom are now serving as officers on board Odfjell vessels.
