The virtual gathering was formally opened by Captain Remigio Zamora, Odfjell Philippines, Inc. General Manager, who welcomed the participants and acknowledged the seafarers' sacrifices, commitment and loyalty, especially the past two years.
To liven up the event, Bow Star's BSB performed a cover of U2's ‘With or Without You’. The rocking performance of Ian (Christopher Ian A Rosell, vocals), JJ (Jaian JV Ramirez, guitars), JM (Junmark Mabini, bass), JC (Jonathan Christopher Siron, maracas) and Joshua (Joshua Gavin Ortega, drums) was made extra special by the attention-grabbing participation of Mr. Tambourine Man, Danilo Baes.
The event's feature presentation was a movie quiz contest that challenged participants to guess the movie title through a screenshot of a particular scene. Bow Cecil emerged as the runaway winner, followed by Bow Triumph who won over Bow Saga in a tie-breaking question.
An Odfjell virtual social is essentially an informal virtual social event that gathers vessels at a certain time to socialize, engage in a friendly competition, or just check in with each other.
Held once every two months, the virtual socials run for about one hour to limit disruptions on vessels’ operations. Participation among ships and crew are totally voluntary, so a ship with only one representative is as welcome as another with all crew members present.
At the moment, virtual socials are designed to feature competitions as the main activity in every session. To make the activities more interesting and exciting, prizes in the form of additional welfare fund and e-certificates that complement bragging rights are prepared for competition winners.
