As a cloud-based platform, Compas offers a more efficient work process as well as integration with other systems used in the organization. It also comes with modules for various stakeholders, the first of which went live on Monday, November 16, – the Office module.
MPS personnel have started using the new system, in parallel with Adonis. This is to ensure a smooth transition, and to secure a back-up shall there be issues with the new platform.
It has only been a few days since the system went live, so the bulk of the work has been on familiarizing with the platform and exploring its features. Maritime Personnel Section (MPS) and IT are working together to check if the functions are working as expected, and to fix errors in the system. Since the system now stores the data of our entire crew pool, one of the main tasks has been to check the accuracy of the migrated data, and to work with Compas in case of any issues.
Documentation Teamleader Richard Sarmiento is very positive about the opportunities offered by the new system:
“It will take us some time to explore all the functions and become well-versed with Compas, but with cooperation and teamwork, we will all learn as we go and adopt the new system.”
Compas has three basic modules (Office, Onboard and Crew) that integrate with each other, providing a continuous exchange of information between them. Any update done in any of the three modules gets automatically replicated in the other two, allowing all users in the Compas environment to have access to live data.
Such automatic updates make record-keeping and tracking easier, which is crucial given the amount of information handled by MPS on a daily basis. It also reduces the risk of errors, and saves users a considerable amount of time.
Shore personnel users in the Compas environment include MPS, Accounting and superintendents. While each group has its own workflow, they all work in one system. This makes it easier for stakeholders to collaborate, while providing them with a better view of the intricate crew management process.
The system has a one-stop-shop applicant tracking program that automates the hiring process from end to end. It also features a built-in messaging function that allows for better and more efficient communication among users. And, it provides multi-platform and real-time access to crewing data.
"We look forward to the positive impact that using Compas will have on our daily work. Its impressive automation streamlines smaller, repetitive tasks and lets technology take care of those tedious tasks. We expect to be able to work easier yet smarter, and spend our time on tasks that will help us realize our full potential and make more meaningful contributions to the company."
Wilen Villamor, Teamleader Vessel Handlers
The best part of Compas is that it empowers seafarers both on board and ashore to take control of their information – both personal and those that they need to carry out their tasks.
The Onboard Module, for example, will provide Captains with access to the records of the seafarers on board the vessel, and will allow them to check and update information critical to running the vessel. The Crew Self Service portal, which the seafarers will soon have access to, will allow you to access and update your own information. We will share more about these in the coming issues.
Because updates made in any of the three modules are replicated in the other two, seafarers are assured that the office is informed of any updates made on the records. In turn, you are also notified of the status of your documents. Such ease in the flow of information saves all stakeholders valuable time.
For updates not covered by these automated processes, the messaging function can be used. This makes communication between seafarers and office personnel easier and more efficient.
More importantly, seafarers have direct access to and control of their own information, anytime, anywhere.
With all the improvements offered by Compas, seafarers will no longer be on the receiving end of information and shore processes. You will be empowered to take control of your own records, and will soon be able to collaborate with shore personnel on matters concerning your employment and profession.
