A financial aid in the form of no-interest loan amounting to PhP 5000 (~ USD 20) was granted by Odfjell to around 200 Filipino seafarers who have been severely affected by measures implemented by the Philippine government following the spread of COVID-19Â in the country.
The Philippines’ Luzon island has been under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) since March 17, suspending all forms of domestic transportation and limiting operations to essential businesses. As a result, no crew changes have since been carried out, adversely affecting the re-employment of our Filipino seafarers.
The financial aid was offered to seafarers who qualified based on set criteria. Those who chose to avail of the assistance received the fund first week of April, to be collected from the second month of wage in their next contract assignment.
