The event featured Atty. Bernard P. Olalia, Undersecretary for Licensing and Adjudication Services at the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. He also discussed DOLE Department Order 249 and its implications for the maritime sector. The session included a Q&A segment, allowing attendees to raise concerns and clarify regulatory matters.
“Hearing first-hand from Usec. Olalia about the latest regulatory changes is valuable for us as we navigate the evolving maritime landscape,” said President and General Manager Agnes Enesio. “Engaging in these discussions ensures we remain compliant while advocating for fair and practical policies that support both seafarers and the industry.”
FAME also presented its Annual Report for 2024, summarizing the organization’s key achievements and ongoing efforts. Discussions covered legislative matters, particularly the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), as well as updates from the JMG Forum on the IRR’s implementation.
“The discussions are particularly relevant as we work to align with new policies,” shared Manager Crew Planning & Training Administration Marites Villena. “We must stay proactive in understanding these regulations and how they impact our crew and operations.”
The meeting also touched on membership concerns and upcoming FAME special projects for 2025, including the 17th FAME Golf Tournament on March 14 and the 16th FAME Fun Run on June 21.
