Since 2012, Odfjell managed vessels have been supplied with state-of-the-art Fall Protection Equipment (FPE). The equipment is selected to provide safety in a wide range of tasks on board, and is delivered by Aak Safety. To ensure that the seafarers are equipped with the necessary competence to use the equipment, a related Fall Protection Course was designed, tailor-made to the tools, and to relevant scenarios on board.
Initially conducted in Subic, Zambales and later transferred to the former Odfjell in the Philippines office in Malate, Manila, the Fall Protection Course is now done in the Thome Training Center in Manila. HSSE Instructor Reny Ortega facilitates the course in cooperation with Thome Ship Management.
On Week 17, Ortega and Ship Auditor Edilardo Vicedo did a week-long refresher training at the Aak Safety training facility in Gravdal, Bergen. The visit also served as a perfect opportunity to familiarize the shore management with the various fall protection equipment, particularly their inspection and maintenance routines.
