Explosion in Ulsan

03.10.2019
At 10:00 local time Saturday 28 September, an explosion occurred onboard the chemical tanker Stolt Groenland in Ulsan, Korea. Odfjell’s Bow Dalian was moored alongside Stolt Groenland at the time of the incident. The vessels were evacuated and all crew accounted for on both vessels.

The damage assessment of Bow Dalian is still ongoing after the fire damages she suffered after the explosion on board Stolt Groenland.

One crew member got minor burns at the explosion, for which he has received medical treatment. All crew members are fine after the incident. As Bow Dalian is technically managed by Thome, the crew is now being followed up by the Thome team. We extend our gratitude to the crew for reacting quickly and following procedures by releasing sprinkler and foam immediately, before evacuating the vessel. Their professionalism clearly mitigated a potentially worse outcome.

Initially, it can be concluded that there is no significant breakdown of key equipment. However, the number of damages are extensive and clean-up and repairs are needed before the ship is again ready to trade. We expect this to last in excess of one week as we depend on the delivery time of necessary equipment.
