Designated Persons in Odfjell

The Designated Person (DP) is an ISM* requirement applicable to those working on ships managed by Odfjell.

The DP function has two main tasks: 

• Provide a link between crew and company (highest level of management)
• Monitor safety and pollution aspects ensuring that adequate resources are applied 

To improve communication between the DP position and the Filipino crew pool, an Assistant DP was instituted in Manila. The Assistant DP reports to the DP.

Reporting to the DP

Crewmembers shall normally raise concerns through their line organization, but they have a right and an obligation to contact the DP or the Assistant DP if this communication is not working. The crewmember raising a concern should identify him/herself, but may request for anonymity. 

All reports to the DP are be treated with discretion.

*ISM, or International Safety Management, is an international standard for the safe operation of ships and for pollution prevention.
