Cyber security - New IMO regulation

22.12.2020
Cybersecurity has become more and more important as our data is spread all over the internet. Even at the open sea you are now vulnerable to cyberattacks. IMO has based on the threat created regulations that Companies have to follow – see video with more information from VP Corporate IT, Torbjørn Lussand.

From January 1, 2021, these new regulations will be valid. Odfjell has updated the vessel procedure related to cybersecurity.

Odfjell will never be better than the last crew member's cybersecurity awareness. Please remember that cybersecurity is as important as sailing in unknown/narrow waters. The risk has to be accounted for.

For any questions, please contact IT at itsecurity@odfjell.com. Stay safe, stay cyber secure.

And if you are in the poetic corner – here’s a cybersecurity message on rhyme:

Beware of the spear phishers
It was on a starless March night,
The spear phishers went out for bite.

Through a zero day vulnerability,
They breached Odfjells network security.

A Trojan attached to an email transmission,
Gave the attackers remote access permission.

Deep into the corporate systems they dove,
Collecting the SecureID key seeds treasure trove.

The theft effected over forty vessels tokens,
Transparency failed and trust was broken.

A few weeks followed and on a moonless May night,
The spear phishers returned with a renewed appetite.

Over the internet via secure VPN and a forged key,
They breached Odfjell’s defenses and Pwned ’their IP.
