Cyber Security Awareness Month 2024

03.10.2024
October is Cyber Security Awareness month, and even though cyber security is important all year around we wish to focus a little bit extra on this subject in October every year.

Odfjell IT is continuously monitoring threats and vulnerabilities related to Odfjell, but as an organization we will never be 100 % safe.

Some statistics:

  • 20 432 phishing emails are stopped every month
  • 3000+ attacks are stopped every month by our firewalls
  • 3 million DNS requests are blocked every month

Even though we stop most of the attempts, some phishing emails will always get through. 90% of all successful attacks started with a phishing email. This is why we continuously train on phishing attacks all year round. It is up to each of us to keep us safe.

We have seen Odfjell user accounts compromised during the last year. Luckily, as we have MFA (multifactor authentication) enabled on all accounts, attackers have not been able to use the accounts even if they were compromised.

It's important to use strong, unique passwords for all accounts and protect them by enabling MFA wherever possible, also for personal accounts like online banking and social media.

AI is developing at an increasing pace, enabling us to use a great set of tools to increase our productivity. This technology is also giving cybercriminals very powerful tools. During October, a new online course will be assigned to everyone in the organization: Generative AI: Intelligent and Dangerous?

We are happy to announce the Odfjell Cyber Security Champion of 2024. Across locations and ships, the winner is Charterer Alessio Contran. He has caught and reported all phishing emails sent to him, and he has not clicked on any of the links. This gives him a perfect score!

We hope this inspires all of you in your busy workday to always Stop, Check, Think before you click. Stay alert as YOU are our last line of defense, and if in doubt: Report it.
