As a cloud-based crew information management system (CIMS), Compas makes the work process more efficient, and integrates with other systems used in the organization. It has modules for various stakeholders: the Office module for shore personnel, the Onboard module for Captains, and the Crew Self-Service module for seafarers. Any update done in any of the three modules gets automatically replicated in the other two, allowing all users in the Compas environment to have access to live data.
The Office module was the first to go live: MPS started using the new program on November 9, in parallel with the current system Adonis to ensure that critical data are not lost during the transition phase, and that there is a back-up in place as the system is fine-tuned. Among the benefits initially observed from the new system are: the automatic updates that make record-keeping and tracking easier, more efficient and more accurate; its one-stop applicant tracking program; and the collaboration brought by its integration with other systems.
The Compas Onboard module will serve as the Captains' one-stop platform in doing various administrative tasks on board. The integration offered by Compas will allow them to work and access various aspects of shipboard management in one single system, and will digitize some tasks currently handled manually.
Once the module is launched in January, Captains can start using Compas for payroll, and to view crew documents and crew lists. More rollouts are planned for 2021, as the Onboard module is further developed to support more functions.
As currently-used systems are gradually integrated into one platform, keeping track of daily administrative tasks will become more efficient for Captains. It will also replace some tedious manual work, while keeping data more secured.
Apart from the built-in messaging app, Compas also boasts of an Onboard events section that links with a universal calendar and displays a series of pre-configured events. Birthdays, port calls, crew changes and expiration dates of current crew documents are among the items that can be viewed in the calendar.
All these improvements will not only offer Captains more efficiency in their work processes; it will also save them a considerable amount of time that they can then use to focus on other important aspects of managing the ship and leading the crew.
Prior to the launch of the Onboard module, Captains can expect an orientation from their respective vessel handlers. Manuals will be available for everyone to consult, and a quick reference guide (QRG) is also being prepared.
Details about the orientation, QRG and manuals will be communicated soon.
