4 East Anchorage, Rotterdam, Netherlands, May 18, 2021. The bright and calm sea was perfect and ideal for the simultaneous launching of freefall lifeboat and MOB rescue boat. The activity, led by Captain Luisito Cantona, aimed not only to comply with regulations, but mainly to properly train and familiarize shipboard personnel in ensuring their state of readiness and efficiency in handling emergency situations. It also helped ensure that the lifesaving and rescue equipment onboard are properly working.

All operating personnel involved in the training first attended task risk assessment sessions facilitated by Chief Officer Ronnie Pondoyo. They identified all possible risks, then ensured the procedures are followed for the safety of everyone involved. The freefall lifeboat was then prepared for release led by Chief Engineer Ricky Monzon, Bosun Jhimzon Antolin, Pumpman Crispin Figuerra and other supporting personnel.

Afterwards, Second Officer Henry Martin Araneta Jr, Third Officer Krypton Roy Sudario, Third Officer Ardee Ken Yolangco, Third Engineer Orville Macairan, Ordinary Seaman Jay Luis Gareza, Ordinary Seaman Eugin Von Garganera, Deck Cadet Jieson Esmino Jr, Engine Cadet Simone Sien Aliman, Engine Boy Renzo Salvador and Stewardess Michiko Anne Bertumen all boarded the lifeboat. The operating crew securely fastened themselves with seatbelts, and Third fficer demonstrated the safety precautions and ensured the readiness of everyone onboard. With everything in place, Captain Cantona ordered the release of the lifeboat by free fall. When it was afloat, its steering and sprinker systems were tested, and it was maneuvered around the ship.

Captain Cantona, Second Engineer J-Dan David Emmanuel Llavor and Able Seaman Aris Brian Acenas operated the man overboard (MOB) rescue boat.

After the training, all ship personnel safely disembarked, and both the rescue boat and the lifeboat were secured. Everyone who participated each had a takeaway that not only enriched their seafaring experience, but also made them more skillful and proactive.
