Bow Explorer welcomes two young US Coast Guard students aboard for training

02.10.2023
Recently, our crew on Bow Explorer hosted a visit from the US Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur, allowing two promising Port State Control Officer (PSCO) students to gain valuable maritime knowledge and experience.

The USCG Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur approached Captain Karl-Henrik Persson with a specific request: To conduct comprehensive training on critical shipboard systems. This training encompassed the Oily Water Separator, Sewage Treatment System, Garbage Management, and Ballast Water Management System, all aimed at enhancing the skills and understanding of the two PSCO students.

In a spirit of collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence, Odfjell warmly welcomed the USCG team aboard Bow Explorer, offering firsthand insights and experiences. The crew's willingness to share their expertise was acknowledged and appreciated. As Michael T. Lohr, a Civilian Marine Inspector from USCG MSU Port Arthur, expressed:

"Thank you again for having our team onboard your excellent ship. Special thanks to your 1st Engineer, Chief Officer, and 2nd Mate for sharing their time and knowledge!"

Denise Buzek Schaefer, our Manager Documentation and Regulatory Compliance in Houston, also recognized the significance of this collaboration:

"Thanks to both captain and the crew for being fantastic ambassadors for Odfjell and for helping the USCG Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur with their training. I am convinced it was fantastic for them to see how the best do it!"
