At 10 minutes past midnight on October 5, Bow Engineer was contacted by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Las Palmas, Spain about a small boat adrift NE off Canary Islands. As our vessel proceeded to the given position, the crew assembled for a possible rescue operation: additional lookouts and an officer were posted on deck, the Man Overboard team was mobilized, and Engine Control Room made the necessary preparations.
Bow Engineer arrived at the area within 30 minutes, and kept the boat in sight from a safe distance until the SAR vessel sent by Las Palmas MRCC arrived. The operation was completed at 4 AM, rescuing 45 refugees from Morocco on board the rubber boat.
